Credential Holders

ATCB has opened the renewal and recertifications for the 2021-2022 credential year and has extended the due date to July 31, 2021. The ATCB is also offering a 30 day grace period through August 31, 2021, with a $30 late fee. The main function of annual renewals is the completion of the mandatory annual ethics attestation. All renewals must be completed via their MYATCB portal, the ATCB ended paper renewals in 2018. Renewing offline requires board authorization, please contact atcbinfo@atcb.org to request a paper renewal.

Recertification:

If you are an ATR-BC due for recertification, there are separate applications for renewal and recertification. Please see step-by-step instructions here.

If you are a Board-Certified Art Therapist you are required to recertify every five years and pay the $100 recertification fee (NOTE: not the same as your ATR annual renewal fee). To recertify, you must demonstrate completion of 100 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) within your five-year cycle and remit payment. Of the 100 CECs, six (6) CEs must be in the area of Ethics. For additional information regarding the recertification requirements, please visit the ATR-BC Recertification Standards document.

All ATR-BCs due to recertify (including those not audited) must submit a list of their completed CE activities within the recertification application. Please note this CE tracker located in MYATCB portals is for your personal management of your CE credits. This CE tracker is not part of the recertification process, it is a tool available to ATR-BC’s to manage and store their CE information. Adding CE activities to your CE tracker does not mean you have recertified.  You will need to add CE’s from your tracker into your recertification application. This step must be compered within the recertification application before you can proceed with finishing your recertification.

Every year, 10% percent of ATR-BCs due to recertification are audited. If you have been selected for audit, you must submit/upload certificates of completion/attendance and other supporting documentation, as outlined in the ATR-BC Recertification Standards document.

If you have not completed the required CECs, you may:

  • Apply for an extension of up to three (3) months. The extension fee is $50. The extension is for recertification only.
  • Apply to take the ATCB Examination (ATCBE). Upon receiving a passing score, you will be recertified automatically. The fee for the ATCBE is $275
  • Apply for Retired Stats (Lifetime vs. Annual). The fee for lifetime is $150. The fee for annual is $25
  • Apply for Temporary Inactive Status. The Temporary Inactive Status fee is $25
  • Choose to relinquish your Board Certification by sending us your statement of relinquishment of your BC to atcbinfo@atcb.org.

Please return to your MyATCB Credential page and choose from Board Certified Art Therapist Options to apply for any of these options.

Please note that recertification and renewal are separate processes. If recertification of board certification distinction is due, all credential holders must complete that application and also complete the renewal of their Registered Art Therapist (ATR). If recertification is not completed by the time a credential holder certification cycle has ended (June 30), the board certification is no longer valid. To reattain board certification, the ATCBE exam is required. More information about the ATCBE can be found here.

All recertifications must be completed online via MYATCB. Manually recertification requires board authorization, please do not mail a check to the national office.
