The Art Therapy Credentialed Supervisor (ATCS) is a credential offered to Board Certified Art Therapists (ATR-BCs) with substantial supervision qualifications.

The ATCS credential informs employers, prospective employers, supervisees, and prospective supervisees that you have met specific criteria for competency in the theories and practices of art therapy supervision.

For the ATCS application, applicants need to provide:

  • Names of individuals supervised and the hours of supervision provided- must be a total of at least 500 hours.
  • Supervision education must be at least 10 hours, and verification of this education must be.
  • Professional disclosure statement. Requirements for this letter are outlined in the ATCS credential standards.
  • Letter of endorsement. Requirements for this letter are outlined in the ATCS credential standards.

The application fee for The Art Therapy Credentialed Supervisor (ATCS) is non-refundable and non-transferable. This fee covers the administrative costs of the application review.

Submission of an application and fee does not guarantee the ATCS will be granted.

Do not use application handbooks from previous years; all applicants must submit applications according to the standards and procedures outlined in the ATCS credential standards. 

Candidates must complete the Disciplinary and Litigation History section of the ATCS application. If you have current or past disciplinary or legal events that require you to respond “yes” to any of the questions, copies of the charge documents and follow-up documents must be included, along with your written account of the event(s). This information should be uploaded with your application on MyATCB. All ATCB applicants and credential holders agree to abide by the ATCB Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures and report any issues to ATCB in writing.

Once all supporting application documents are received, the application will move to an “In Review”; review times can take eight to twelve weeks. If approved, you will be notified if your ATCS application has been approved.

To maintain the ATCS credential, annual renewals are required, in which credential holders complete a formal attestation that they comply with the ATCB Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures. Additionally, your designation as a registered art therapist with board certification must be active and in good standing.

The ATCB credential year is July 1- June 30. Once approved, you may use the ATCS professional designation for the remainder of your approved credential year.  Compliance with the ATCB Code of Ethics, Conduct, and Disciplinary Procedures and the annual maintenance fee of $25.

Any credential that is not renewed will become inactive.
