Testing Window and Retake Policy

Candidates have a six-month testing window to complete the ATCBE. An examinee may take the ATCBE no more than three times per calendar year for either board certification or licensure. A 90-day waiting period is required between exam attempts.

Exam Delivery Methods

Candidates now have two options for taking the ATCBE:

  1. Prometric Testing Center – In-person examination at an approved facility.
  2. Remotely Proctored Exam – Taken from an internet-enabled location that meets remote proctoring requirements.

Requirements for Remote Proctoring:

  • A personal computer (not employer-owned) with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection.
  • Installation of Prometric’s ProProctor™ application before the test.
  • Completion of a system check to confirm compatibility.

Review the ProProctor™ User Guide before selecting the remotely proctored exam option.

Scheduling Your ATCBE Exam

Candidates must complete an official ATCBE application and receive approval before scheduling with Prometric. Approved candidates will receive a unique testing candidate ID required for scheduling.

Scheduling Options:

  • Schedule at a Prometric Testing Center
  • Schedule a Remotely Proctored Exam

ProProctor™ System Requirements

To take the ATCBE remotely, candidates must meet the following system requirements:

  • ESL accommodations.
  • Paper-and-pencil testing.
  • Special equipment or software needs.

Some accommodations require additional processing time, which may affect scheduling availability.

Rescheduling or Canceling Your Exam

Candidates must reschedule or cancel their exam through the Prometric website or by contacting a Prometric representative.

Prometric Fees for Rescheduling or Cancellation:

  • 30+ days before the test date: No fee.
  • 5-29 days before the test date: $35 fee.
  • Less than 5 days, no-show, or late arrival (30+ minutes late): The candidate is responsible for the full test delivery fee incurred by the ATCB.

The ATCB Board may make exceptions for extenuating circumstances.

Providing Feedback on Exam Items

Candidates can submit feedback on exam questions during the test, but time spent commenting will reduce the allotted three and a half (3.5) hours. Alternatively, feedback can be submitted via the Exam Feedback Form page.
