Taking the ATCBE for State Licensure
In some states, a passing score on the ATCBE is a condition for licensure. State approval is required to take the exam for state licensure. Washington DC, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York use the ATCBE for their art therapy state licensure efforts. You must apply for the ATCBE via the MYATCB portal. If you don’t have an account on MYATCB, you must create one before you can apply for the exam.
The exam is offered via computer-based testing (CBT) and is provided throughout the year at testing centers or remote proctoring throughout the U.S. The fee for the exam is $325 and is non-transferable or refundable.
If approved to take the ATCBE, applicants have a 6-month testing window. The ATCB will send approval notifications to the email listed in the candidate’s MyATCB portal. State Licensure candidates must work directly with the ATCB exam provider Prometric to schedule the exam.
Official ATCBE results are available within 12 business days* to allow for score equating and are uploaded to the examinee’s MYATCB accounts. However, an unofficial score report is available within hours of exam completion.

Special Examination Accommodations for State Examinees
If you plan to test for state licensure and need testing accommodations, you must contact your state licensure board for information and approvals. The ATCB cannot provide accommodations without permission from your state licensure board.
