States Using the ATCBE for Licensure

The following states utilize the ATCBE for their state licensure:

  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Washington D.C.

Candidates seeking to take the ATCBE for state licensure in any of the states listed above
must obtain an eligibility or approval letter/email from their state licensure board.
This document must explicitly confirm their eligibility to sit for the ATCBE.

The exam is offered via computer-based testing (CBT) and is available year-round at testing centers or via remote proctoring in the U.S. The fee is $325 and is non-transferable and non-refundable.

Once approved, candidates have a 6-month testing window (state licensure board requirements may vary). Approval notifications will be sent to the email listed in the candidate’s MyATCB portal. State licensure candidates must schedule their exam directly with Prometric.

Official ATCBE results are available within 12 business days via the MYATCB portal. An unofficial score report is available within hours of completing the exam.
 

Creating a MyATCB Account

To apply for the exam, applicants must create a MyATCB account. For instructions, visit the

Special Accommodations

Candidates requiring special accommodations must submit a request to their state licensure board. Upon approval, an approval letter must be provided to the ATCB via the application process in MyATCB.
 

Exam Delivery Methods

Candidates have two options for taking the ATCBE:

  • Prometric Testing Center – In-person examination at an approved facility.
  • Remotely Proctored Exam – Taken from an internet-enabled location that meets remote proctoring requirements.

 

Retake Policy

Candidates must wait 90 days between exam attempts. Check for any additional retake requirements set by your state licensure board.

To retake the exam, candidates must reapply and submit the examination fee by completing the ATCBE for State Licensure application. Applications are accepted at any time and will be approved once all required documentation is received. The assigned testing window will reflect the required 90-day waiting period.
