Special Testing Accommodations

  1. Board Certification
  2. Special Testing Accommodations

Requesting Accommodations for Board Certification

If you are a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) applying for Board Certification and need special examination accommodations for the Art Therapy Credentials Board Exam (ATCBE), make sure to request this in the Board Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC) online application. You may need to provide supporting documentation or pay a fee as outlined below. Note that requests without the required documentation or fee (if applicable) will not be approved. Exam candidates seeking to take the ATCBE for state licensure must contact their state licensure board for accommodation approvals.

Candidates With Disabilities

When filling out the ATCBE application, be prepared to:

  • Briefly describe the nature of your disability.
  • Specify the accommodations and/or arrangements you need to complete the ATCBE.
  • Provide documentation from a qualified professional with diagnosis and recommended accommodations. This documentation can be uploaded with your application. Documentation must be no older than five years.

There is no fee for disability accommodation.

Candidates for Whom English is a Second Language

If English is not your native language, you may request additional testing time and accommodations:

  • Two extra hours to complete the test.
  • A word-to-word translation dictionary (non-electronic, non-defining, provided by the examinee).

A $60 fee for this accommodation must be paid at the time of application. This fee is non-refundable, even if you do not use the additional time or dictionary.

Special Examination Accommodations for State Examinees

For those testing for state licensure and needing accommodations, you must contact your state licensure board. The ATCB cannot provide accommodations without state licensure board approval.
