Help ATCB Elevate Art Therapy Standards

The ATCB relies on the passion and investment of credentialed art therapists to continue its mission of protecting the public by promoting the competent and ethical practice of art therapy. Would you like to support the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) and volunteer as a board member or committee member?

Ways to Volunteer With The ATCB

There are many benefits to volunteering – networking with fellow art therapists and obtaining connections, developing technical and/or leadership skills, the ability to create additional opportunities for yourself within your career, earn valuable continuing education credits and maintaining the rigor of art therapy through the credentialing and oversight.  The ATCB encourages you to get involved and make an impact in art therapy through volunteerism! There are opportunities to suit your interests, level of effort, and available time commitment.

ATCB Board Member

The ATCB Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and oversight for the organization. As the governing body, the Board sets policy, ensures financial stewardship, and upholds ATCB’s mission to protect the public by promoting the competent and ethical practice of art therapy.

Term Length: Directors serve two-year terms and may be reappointed to an additional term based on eligibility.

Meetings: The Board meets monthly (virtually), with one in-person meeting each year, and as needed for special sessions.

Note: To prevent potential conflicts of interest, members of the ATCB Board of Directors shall not serve simultaneously on the Board of Directors of any other art-therapy-related credentialing agency, membership association, state licensing board, or similar entity.

Board of Appeals

The Board of Appeals reviews appeals related to credentialing decisions and ethical matters. Its members ensure that all appellants receive a fair, impartial, and thorough review consistent with ATCB policies and standards

Meetings: The Board of Appeals meets as-needed basis, typically several times a year based on appeal volume.

Note: To prevent potential conflicts of interest, ATCB Board of Appeals members shall not serve simultaneously on boards of other art therapy credentialing agencies, membership associations, state licensing boards, or similar entities.

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board offers guidance and expertise to support ATCB’s strategic initiatives. Members serve as thought partners to the Board of Directors and staff, sharing insights from diverse areas of practice and helping identify emerging needs in the field.

Term Length: Members serve a two-year term.

Meetings: The Advisory Board meets virtually 2-3 times per year and may be called upon for special projects.

Note: To prevent potential conflicts of interest, Advisory Board members may not simultaneously serve on boards of other art therapy credentialing agencies, membership associations, state licensing boards, or similar entities.

Continuing Education Review Panel

The Continuing Education Review Panel evaluates continuing education provider applications and course submissions to ensure they meet ATCB’s standards for quality and relevance. Panel members help maintain the integrity of the continuing education program.

Term Length: Members serve two-year terms with the possibility of renewal.

Meetings: The panel meets virtually as needed, typically 2–4 times per year to review applications.

Note: Individuals serving on the Continuing Education Review Panel are not eligible to apply as ATCB-approved CE providers during their term of service.
