NOTICE:
Effective July 1, 2024, at 12:00 AM EST, all inactive credentials will have one year (July 1 – June 30) to complete the reinstatement process and restore the credential to active status.
Reinstatement Fee: The reinstatement fee is $250, effective July 1, 2024.
Permanent Inactivation: To comply with data privacy and protection regulations, the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB℠) will not hold personally identifiable information in MyATCB℠ portals for inactive credentials for longer than one year. If a credential is not reinstated within one year of becoming inactive, it (and its assigned credential number) will be permanently inactive.
Reinstatements are an option available for Registered Art Therapist (ATR℠), Provisional Registered Art Therapist (ATR-P®), and Art Therapy Credentialed Supervisor℠ (ATCS℠) Credentials Only
Board Certified Registered Art Therapist® (ATR-BC®) is not a credential—it is a certification.

Credential Reinstatement Information
The ATCB℠ credential year runs from July 1 to June 30. Before each new credential year, credential holders must complete an ethics and credential holder attestation as part of the renewal process. An email alert is sent when renewals open, and all renewals must be completed through MYATCB to ensure compliance with the Code governing Standards of Practice, Eligibility for and Regulation of Credentials, and Disciplinary Procedures
Grace Period: If the renewal is not completed by the due date, there is a 30-day grace period from July 1 – July 31 to complete it. A $30 late fee will apply. Any credential without an updated ethics attestation by July 31 at 11:59 PM EST will become inactive.
Reinstatement Process
If a credential becomes inactive, a reinstatement application must be completed.
To Return to Active Status:
- Complete the reinstatement application via MYATCB.
- Pay the $250 reinstatement fee.
Reinstatement applications undergo the same ethics review process as all ATCB℠ applications. The reinstatement fee covers the ethics review, national registry relisting, administrative costs, and the annual renewal fee.
Fee Waiver Requests: Credential holders facing financial hardship may request a fee waiver. Contact LeeAnn Mandrillo for assistance. All fee waivers require board approval.
Board Certification & Reinstatement
If a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist℠ (ATR-BC®) credential holder’s Registered Art Therapist (ATR℠) was not renewed and became inactive during the board certification cycle, the Board Certification (BC) distinction can resume once the ATR℠ is reinstated.
However, if both the ATR℠ renewal and Board Certification (BC) recertification were missed, the reinstatement process only applies to the ATR℠. Additional information about board certification recertification is available here.
Appealing Credential Inactivation
Credential holders may appeal the inactivation of a credential by submitting a formal request to the ATCB℠ Board of Appeals. However, appeals will not be considered for challenges to established deadlines and processes outlined in the credential requirements and ATCB℠ communications, unless there is cause.
